Almost all public education schools teach today that the earth is billions of years old. The reason they teach this is because it is a plausible explanation for evolution. If evolution is true (and we know it is only a theory), it would require billions of years or more for it to take place. If the world is only six thousand years old, than evolution would be not be valid. Of course, we can't just make up what we want to believe. Evolution is either true or it is a lie. The earth is either billions of years old or it isn't. Despite some new famous, and I might add 'wishful thinking', quotes, evolution has not been proven. It is still only a theory. It is taught in schools as if it were a fact. On top of that, there are other 'theories' that are put out that would make evolution make sense. We are taught this framework and will probably accept these things as facts, unless we know better.
But is there another explanation for the things we see today? Could it be that rock formations were really formed by water covering the earth quickly? How did the continents get here? Here is a web page that gives another explanation of how the continents were formed. Keep in mind that the surface of the earth looked different after the flood than it did before the days of Noah. We don't have to believe everything we hear from the media, government, or school system as proven fact, just because people who are authority figures say them. There are other possibilities as well. Remember, no one living today was present at the beginning of time, but we do have what was written in Scriptures, recorded for us to see.
