Plagues in Egypt - Exodus 3 - 12
Right now we are using two different sets of Veritas cards in order to get a better chronological timeline of the events that were taking place on this earth. Right around the time when the Minoan civilization was ending and the Mycenaen civilization was taking over, the plagues in Egypt were taking place. As you recall, Moses is now the leader of the Israelites, and this is the preparation time for the Israelites to get ready to leave Egypt. God was calling them into their homeland, but it would not be an easy task for them, as they started doubting what God was telling Moses and they began to complain a lot about their circumstances.
One day, Moses was standing near a burning bush, and while he was analyzing this bush because it was not being consumed, God spoke to him out of this bush. He was calling Moses to free the Israelites from being slaves to the Egyptians. The Egyptians were very cruel task-masters at this point. The leaders required the Israelites to make bricks. They wanted the Israelites to become so consumed with their work that they wouldn't have time for anything else. The Egyptians were afraid that the Israelites would become too numerous and powerful and would try to take over them. That is why they made them work so hard.
Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and asked Pharaoh to let the Israelites go. At first the Pharaoh said that he would let them go, but he would change his mind and say that they couldn't go. Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh ten times to ask him to let the Israelites go into the wilderness to worship God. Pharaoh would not let them go. Every time Pharaoh said 'no', Moses would explain to him the plague that God would bring about. There ended up being ten plagues against the Egyptians, and Pharaoh was still reluctant to let them go. Each of the plagues was a direct attack on a false Egyptian God. The last and final plague was the death of the firstborn son in each family that did not put the blood of the Lamb on the door post of their houses, on the night God instructed them to do so. Each of the Egyptian families experienced death in their households and there was hard crying in each house. The Death Angel passed over the houses that had the blood of the Lamb on the doorposts and those families were not affected by the plague. This is why it is called, "Passover" because the Death Angel passed over the houses with the blood on the door posts. This is a picture of what Jesus would do for us on the Cross. He shed His blood for us to cover our sin. He is the Lamb of God that will take away the sin of the world. We don't have to experience the Death Angel coming over us if we are trusting in Jesus' blood for our atonement.
