Second Intermediate Period in Egypt
We covered the First Intermediate Period in Egypt, which was marked by civil wars, then the Middle Kingdom, in Egypt, which had a time of peace. Today we will learn about the Second Intermediate Period in Egypt, which was from the time period of around 1800 - 1570 B.C.
This time period is made up of Dynasties thirteen through seventeen. The rulers were not strong and local princes were controlling smaller areas of Egypt.
Now Egypt had control of the major sites in Nubia and in the south. The Nubians were probably a nomadic tribe that may have roamed on the east side of the Nile River, and probably lived in deserts. They were hired by the Egyptians to be soldiers. They settled in the land that was south of Egypt and developed powerful kingdoms.
The last dynasty of that time period ruled from Thebes, which was in the south. This dynasty wanted to reunify the country, but was not successful.
