True History - Veritas Card # 32 - Joshua's Last Words

Joshua's Last Words - Joshua 23 and 24

The Bible is very clear that every person has an appointment with death (see Hebrews 9:27) and now it was time for Joshua's life on earth to end. He had faithfully served the Lord and now he was calling the tribes of Israel together so that he could give them a special message. He reminded the Israelites of God's faithfulness to them in giving them the Promised Land. He also warned them of idolatry. If the Israelites broke their covenant with God, God would deal with them. God would curse them and destroy them. They would be wiped out if they turned away from God. Joshua reminded the people of what God had done for them as He brought them out of Egypt. God had saved them from their oppressors. He had worked miracles for His people. God had also driven out the enemies that were in the land. God had fought for Israel. Joshua wanted to remind the people of God's goodness to them and all the promises that were fulfilled by God on their behalf. Joshua also pleaded with the people, that they would not forsake the Lord their God, but they needed to follow Him with all their hearts.
After this was done, the people agreed with Joshua and promised to obey the Lord and follow Him with all of their hearts.
The time period for this was around 1390 B.C.
