Church History - French Revolution Cult of Supreme Being

French Revolution Cult of Supreme Being - May 7, 1794

In this week in History, France decreed worship of a Supreme Being. But that Supreme being was not the God of the Bible. The Revolutionary leader, Robespierre, believed that reason would make a weak God. He was afraid of not believing in a powerful God like the God of the Bible, would cause morals to collapse. This was the beginning of Deism. Deism believes in a Supreme Being that created the world, but doesn't interfere with the lives of the people or events that happen.
